Aon exec to replace Quigley on Cook County Board

A former Chicago City Hall administrator has been chosen to replace outgoing Cook County Commissioner Mike Quigley as he heads to Congress.

During a meeting Saturday, Democratic politicians from Chicago's North Side selected 40-year-old Aon Corp. executive Bridget Gainer to represent the county's 10th District. She's worked as an administrator in the city's budget office and at the Chicago Park District.

Gainer beat out seven other candidates, including Democrat Quigley's chief of staff and endorsed successor, Kimberly Walz.

The 50-year-old Quigley was elected Tuesday to Rahm Emanuel's vacant congressional seat in the 5th District. Emanuel left Congress to serve as President Barack Obama's chief of staff.
