Why we should help young illegals
Rueben Navarette's op-ed piece on immigration is timely. However, there is an urgent need by Congress, irrespective of party and view on immigration, to help a class of young people who have been brought here when young by their illegal immigrant parents.
These young immigrant individuals have been raised as Americans and behave and think like Americans. If they go back to their country of origin, they will not fit in and even be harassed and taken advantage of. We, as Americans, must help these youngsters become American citizens as they really are in thought and mind.
The Dream Act will allow these individuals to become citizens if they graduate an American high school and pass a citizenship exam. These unfortunate individuals are caught between two worlds not because of their own actions and we can and need to help them so they will become good and productive Americans.
