Opening of surveying museum delayed
SPRINGFIELD -- The planned opening this summer of the National Museum of Surveying is unlikely to take place because of a decline in donations.
Illinois Professional Land Surveyor's Association executive director Bob Church says museum officials are pursuing funding sources, including grants, in hopes the museum would open in the fall.
The museum, located in a former clothing store, will have exhibits on the history of surveying and how surveying helped shape the country.
The museum has antiques for exhibition, but storyboards with text and other segments have not been started.
According to Church, the association has raised about $1.2 million for the museum, but needs an additional $200,000 to complete the exhibits.
