No injuries when 17-year-old drives car into house in Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police were investigating Thursday how a car hit a house on the 240 block of Cedar Glen Drive Wednesday night.

Officer Doug Hajek said a white, 1992 BMW driven by an unidentified 17-year-old from Des Plaines was driving westbound on Pheasant Drive at about 11 p.m. when she drove through the "T" intersection at Cedar Glen and struck the house.

The impact with the house startled the six people inside and caused some structural damage, Hajek said, but the building was determined OK and the residents were not evacuated. No one in the home was injured, he added.

The vehicle also hit a lawn statue and a stop sign and damaged the lawn of the home before hitting the house, Hajek said.

All four of the people in the car ran from the scene of the accident, but were later discovered by police about a block away. They were returned to the scene of the crash, Hajek said, where they were treated and released by Arlington Heights Fire Department paramedics.

The four people in the car said they were being chased by a black car, which caused the driver to speed through the intersection, where they lost control of the vehicle.

The 17-year-old female driver from Des Plaines was issued citations including failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving without a valid license, Hajek said.

She was taken to the Arlington Heights Police Department where she posted 10 percent of her $1,000 bond. She is due back in court on Dec. 7, Hajek said.

A 15-year-old male passenger from Arlington Heights, an 18-year-old female passenger from Des Plaines and an 18-year-old male passenger from Des Plaines were released at the scene and not charged.
