Man accused of burglary at St. Charles Meijer
An Aurora man was charged with felony burglary and theft after stealing a pile of DVDs from Meijer in St. Charles, police said Wednesday.
The burglary charge was the result of Eriberto Vega, 40, taking his own scissors to remove tags from the merchandise, according to police.
"He was in possession of a pair scissors with orange handles that Meijer does not carry, indicating he brought them into the store with the intent to commit theft," St. Charles police spokesman Paul McCurtain said. "If you can show you've got intent to commit theft in a residence or business, then you've got burglary also."
McCurtain said Vega, of the 400 block of Watson Street, was seen about 1:10 p.m. Monday putting DVDs valued at nearly $300 in his jacket before he went to the checkout line and bought a $3.31 notepad. He was arrested as he tried to leave the store.
Vega was in the Kane County jail Wednesday with bail set at $25,000. He is scheduled to appear in court March 24 before Judge James C. Hallock.
If convicted of burglary, a Class 2 felony, Vega could be sentenced to three to seven years in prison or probation.
