Number out of work is higher than it looks

One thing all the statistics about unemployment miss is those that are self-employed consultants.

I am a self-employed training developer and my business went from full time, often billing over 40 hours a week, to almost nothing. But I can't collect unemployment so I don't show up on any statistics.

I'm sure there are lots of people like me out there that would bring this percentage to well over the stated 10 percent.
