Aurora man accused of having 30,000 child porn images

An Aurora man who knew he was under investigation for having explicit images of children was caught in the act again, prosecutors allege, when police arrested him.

A DuPage County judge ordered Larry J. Barker held Thursday on a $750,000 bond on aggravated child pornography and possession of child pornography charges.

Barker, 58, is accused of having more than 30,000 child porn photos and movies.

Police began investigating Barker in October when a Wheaton detective scanning the Internet for child predators discovered a graphic movie of children engaged in sex acts that was being distributed among various sites.

Prosecutor Brian Perkins said police later traced the child pornography back to Barker, but they did not arrest him right away while forensic experts analyzed the two computers detectives had confiscated from their suspect.

Perkins said Barker was caught in the act of downloading more images on a third computer Wednesday when officers went back to his apartment on the 300 block of North Oakhurst Drive to arrest him on a warrant.

"He told police he just wanted to be naughty," Perkins said.

He said the defendant confessed and is considered suicidal. Barker must post 10 percent of the $750,000 bond to be released pending his April 13 arraignment.
