Ex-McDonald's workers charged with robbing store
Two former McDonald's workers are accused of robbing the restaurant in Lombard's Yorktown Center in a brazen crime that included duct-taping a female manager.
A DuPage County judge ordered the men held Friday on $750,000 bonds. They are charged with armed robbery with a firearm and aggravated unlawful restraint.
Police said a 54-year-old female manager was forced at gunpoint to open a safe about 5 a.m. Dec. 1 and then duct-taped. No shots were fired. She was not otherwise physically injured.
The masked men made off with $17,000, officials said.
One of the defendants, Bobby L. Dean, 31, of Chicago, was a store manager at the time. The other, Jardell A. Woods, 21, of Bellwood, is a former employee. Both have prior criminal records.
"The investigation still is ongoing," Lombard Deputy Police Chief Dane Cuny said. "We believe there is an additional suspect or suspects that were involved. We hope to bring charges against all of those involved."
Police arrested Dean and Woods on Thursday after an extensive investigation that they said including reviewing video surveillance footage and forensic testing of crime-scene evidence.
Cuny said police linked the two charged men to the crime through DNA that was found on discarded clothing and food found at the crime scene.
