Clip news articles to prepare for voting
I find myself despairing over the corruption and self-serving attitudes of those representing us in Cook County, the state of Illinois, and in Washington, D.C. I wonder if we will ever again have confidence that those elected to office at any level of government are there to protect and serve those they represent and not there to accumulate wealth and power on their own behalf first and foremost.
It is very difficult to remember which politicians said what, where and when and then changed the music in the middle of the dance. The only things I have left are my voice and my vote.
I am starting a file in preparation for the elections in 2010 which will hold news clippings of how various representatives handled certain issues.
Among them will be the names of those who voted in favor of Todd Stroger's Cook County tax hike or refused to rescind it, for instance. I could go on with examples at the state as well as federal levels on so many issues that are highly suspect as to whom the beneficiaries really are.
I am hoping that the votes of deceased people are no longer counted in elections and that my vote will mean something. It is the only chance we have to get rid of corruption-get rid of the people promoting it. Start your file today!
