Judson softball takes 3 straight

The Judson University softball team improved to 3-2 with three straight victories at the Tucson Softball Invitational on Tuesday.

The Eagles defeated College of St. Mary (NJ) 11-2, Northwestern College (Iowa) 6-4 and Waldorf College (Iowa) 2-1.

Judson scored 9 runs in the final three innings to beat College of St. Mary. Starting pitcher Brienne Simmons went 4 innings and took a no-decision as Victoria Perez earned the win in relief. Nicole Dimiceli went 2-for-4 with a 3-run home run.

Alyssa Cooke pitched 4 innings to earn the win and Liz Jacobsen tossed 3 innings to earn the save against Northwestern College. Dimiceli went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple and Jacobson had 2 RBI. Carrie Sensor went 3-for-4 and Kristin Krueger went 3-for-3 in the win.

Against Walforf (5-1), Nikki Prokuski gained the win and Virginia McAndrews the save as each pitcher tossed 3 innings. Sensor drove in a run and Dimiceli singled home what proved to be the game winner in the third.

Baseball

Judson splits: Judson University (2-3) split a doubleheader against Marian College (Ind.) at the Ormond each Collegiate Classic in Ormond Beach, Fla. on Tuesday.

Judson dropped the opener 3-1 before winning the nightcap 10-5.

Starting pitcher Stefan Alinkas went 5 innings and gave up 2 runs on 4 hits in the 3-1 loss. Zach Scipione led Judson with 3 hits while Brett Ehrlich, Mike Krueger, and Chris Lucius each finished with 2 hits.

Judson erased a 5-3 deficit in Game 2 with a 7-run eruption in the seventh inning, highlighted by Krueger's triple with the bases loaded.

Matt Musser picked up his first collegiate win by pitching only the sixth inning.

Judson will play No. 19 Missouri Baptist today at 10 a.m.
