Elgin worker killed in hit-and-run accident

Berwyn police were seeking the driver who left the scene of an accident that killed an Elgin construction worker early Sunday.

Orlando Farias, 47, was struck by the black Dodge Charger about 6:15 a.m. at the corner of Ogden and Lombard avenues, according to a news release from Berwyn Police.

Farias was declared dead at Loyola University Medical Center just after 7:30 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Farias was working in the intersection when the car, driven by an unidentified man, hit him, police said. The driver then drove west on Ogden Avenue, the news release said.

Police said the car should have damage and be missing its emblem. The license plate number is unknown.
