Attorney seeks new judge in pastor slaying case

EDWARDSVILLE -- The attorney for a suspect in an Illinois pastor's mid-sermon slaying wants a new judge appointed in the case and a return of medical records seized from his client.

Ron Slemer filed the motions Wednesday on behalf of Terry Sedlacek (SEHD'-lak) of Troy.

Prosecutors have accused Sedlacek of killing Winters during a service last Sunday at First Baptist Church in Maryville. Sedlacek received knife wounds while being subdued by two church members.

Slemer wants medical records he says were seized from Sedlacek's home the day of the shooting returned. Slemer says his client is getting psychological treatment while hospitalized.

The attorney also wants two judges removed from possibly handling the case, insisting they're prejudiced against his client.

Slemer has entered a not guilty plea on his Sedlacek's behalf.
