Immigrant reform is urgently needed
I read with interest and disgust your story about Elvira Arellano. It wasn't your story that disgusted me, it was the subject.
As far as I'm concerned, Ms. Arellano does stand for the need for immigration reform. The United States has become a land of bleeding- heart liberals who have made it easy for people like Ms. Arellano to thumb their noses at our laws. We need much tougher immigration laws, not easier. Our borders with Mexico are a laughingstock. The thought that Hispanics feel that they can gather and actually march to protest our immigration rules is a slap in the face of the United States. Just who is in control of this country ... its citizens or the illegal immigrants?
Years ago, when people emigrated from Europe to the U.S., it was considered a sign of pride for them to go through the process of becoming a citizen. They went through the process and as a result, achieved the rights of being a U.S. citizen.
Not so anymore. Face it, Ms. Arellano knew what she was doing when she entered the U.S. illegally and was hired for work using a false Social Security number.
We do need immigration reform. We need to get tough. We need to plug the holes in our borders with Mexico. We need to deport undocumented aliens already in this country. We need to establish a rule that if you are going to live and work in this country, you must become a citizen and you must go through the process of becoming one.
We need to amend the "if you're born here, you're automatically a citizen" rule to say that if you're born here of two legal U.S. citizens, you're automatically a U.S. citizen. And we need to recognize that until immigrants are legally documented, they have none of the rights that a U.S. citizen has.
I do not feel sorry for Ms Arellano one iota ... not one. She knew she broke the law when she came, she knew broke the law when she stayed and she should accept the consequences for it.
Thanks for reading this. I wish people who feel as I do had the same media coverage, interest and accessibility as those who do not feel as I do. Have an nice day.
