Route 59 reopens in Bartlett after multi-car accident
Bartlett police shut down a portion of Route 59 Tuesday after a multiple car accident, police officials said.
Sgt Geoffrey Pretkelis of the Bartlett Police Department said police responded to Route 59 and Santa Fe Street at 7:30 a.m. for a four-car accident.
A 49-year-old Bartlett woman was driving her green-colored 2000 Ford Expedition southbound on Route 59 when she lost control of her vehicle due to the inclement weather, he said.
Her vehicle spun out of control into the northbound lanes of Route 59, causing a 1998 Honda Accord, a 2004 GMC Savana and a 1995 Lincoln Mark VIII to crash, he said.
"I don't believe it was a black ice situation, just slick roadways," he said.
The driver of the Accord suffered minor injuries and was transported to Central DuPage Hospital by the Bartlett Fire Protection District, he said.
The northbound lanes of Route 59 were shut down for approximately 45 minutes while the Expedition, Accord and Savana were towed and the Mark VIII was pulled out of a ditch on the east side of the roadway.
Police are not releasing the names of the people involved in the accident because charges have not been filed. Pretkelis said the incident remains under investigation.
