Aledo ends Lisle's season
ALEDO - Despite quarterback Jon Surber passing for 202 yards, No. 13-seeded Lisle ended its season with a 28-21 Class 3A playoff loss to No. 4 Aledo on Saturday.
Trailing 21-14 at haltime, the Lions (5-5) tied the game late in the third quarter on a 2-yard run from Surber. However, Aledo (9-1) needed just 6 plays on its ensuing drive to score the game-winning touchdown after a 51-yard pass from Brett Anderson to Colton Welch.
The Lions had two opportunities to tie the game, but Surber was intercepted inside the Aledo 35 and the Lions were stuffed on fourth down with less than three minutes left in the game.
"I thought we could win this game," Lisle coach Dan Sanko said. "We had a great week of practice and we just didn't do it. I'm really disappointed because I thought it was a game we could have won."
The Lions managed 303 yards of offense but gave up 340, including 281 yards passing to Anderson.
"I am in shock, to be honest," Sanko said. "We knew what they would do. They formation you to death. There's no excuse for that. We knew what they were going to do. - We weren't prepared well enough."
Anthony Ventrella and Jake Kretmen each scored rushing touchdowns and combined to run for 85 yards.
