Psychiatric report due on Arlington Heights alleged shooter

Jason Jakob, who police say fired 40 to 50 rounds off inside his Arlington Heights home last March, will next appear in court Jan. 20. At that time a psychiatric report for the 39-year-old unemployed mortgage broker will be returned, said Michael Gerber, Cook County assistant state's attorney.

In the March incident, nearly 80 police officers surrounded the home in the 900 block of North Harvard Avenue for seven hours. In the aftermath, Jakob was released on bond but was ordered to surrender his weapons and his Firearm Owners Identification Card.

Authorities said they recovered 27 high-powered rifles and 19 handguns and thousands of rounds of ammunition, all registered.

Then last month, Jakob was accused of violating terms of his bond by having several guns in his home. Bond was increased to $750,000, and he remains incarcerated, Gerber said Friday.

The original charges were aggravated assault, reckless discharge of a firearm and aggravated intimidation.
