Inverness couple gets probation for Rolling Meadows home burglary
An Inverness couple charged last summer with burglarizing a neighbor's home pleaded guilty to charges of residential burglary and forgery recently in Rolling Meadows.
Kendra Smith, 38, of the 700 block of Stone Canyon Circle, received 24 months' probation. Her partner, John Bradley Crenshaw, 40, of the same address, received six years in prison for residential burglary and five years for forgery. He will serve the sentences concurrently.
According to authorities, Smith and Crenshaw attended a block party in July but left early in order to burglarize a neighbor's house. The couple used a baseball bat to break a window and unlock the front door, police said. They stole jewelry, a credit card and other items from the home, police said.
Inverness police obtained warrants for their arrest several days later after they used the stolen credit card at a Palatine video store.
In the meantime, Smith and Crenshaw drove to western Illinois to pawn the stolen items, authorities said. A domestic dispute at a Rock Island hotel attracted the attention of local sheriff's police, eventually resulting in their arrest.
