1 hurt in semi, pickup crash on Route 53

One person was injured and traffic was snarled Tuesday morning on the northbound lanes of Route 53 near Thorndale Avenue in Itasca after a semi-truck collided with a pickup.

The accident took place at 7:04 a.m., state police officials said.

The driver of the pickup -- which was wedged between the semi truck and a light pole -- was taken to Alexian Brothers Hospital in Elk Grove Village with injuries not considered life-threatening, officials said.

Police still are trying to determine the cause of the crash, they said.
