Janitors for United planes strike in Boston

BOSTON -- Janitors who clean Delta and United airlines planes at Boston's Logan International Airport have gone on strike.

The more than 100 Aramark Corp. employees clean toilets and remove trash from planes parked overnight. They say many have received wages of between $8 and $9 an hour with few or no benefits.

They say the 24-hour strike is to combat Aramark's bad faith in negotiations for their first union contract and other unfair labor practices. The strike began Wednesday and is supposed to end Thursday.

Philadelphia-based Aramark hasn't responded to telephone and e-mail messages seeking comment.

A spokeswoman for Chicago-based UAL Corp. subsidiary United Airlines Inc. says the company has backup resources to service planes and flights will operate as normal. Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines Inc. has no comment.
