Woman dies in far South Side fire

Authorities say a woman was killed in a fire that hit the building where she lived on the city's far South Side.

Firefighters responded to the fire late Saturday night in the Roseland neighborhood. Fire Department Cmdr. Will Knight said the burning building had a mattress shop on the first floor and several apartments on the second floor.

The dead woman was identified as 41-year-old Lillian Randolph. She was pronounced dead early Sunday morning at Roseland Community Hospital.

Knight said the cause of the blaze remains under investigation, but he noted that no working smoke detectors were found in the building.
