Fire damages Elk Grove Village home

A home on the 900 block of Wilma Lane in Elk Grove Village was extensively damaged by fire Saturday.

The homeowner received a minor injury, but he, his son and a dog escaped out the rear of the house, said Mark Sellers, battalion chief for the Elk Grove Fire Department.

Two people - an immediate neighbor and a passers-by - went in the front door of the burning house to be sure everyone was out, Sellers said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
