Gunshot victim found in Elgin home; police looking for suspect

A dead body riddled with multiple gunshots was found Sunday morning in an Elgin residence, police said.

Police are not releasing the name of the victim as family has yet to be notified. The body was found just before noon Sunday o-n the 500 block of Page Avenue, police said. A reverse check of the address shows as many as six people share that postal address.

Police described the victim as a male in his early 20s. Police are already in search of a suspect they have identified but have not yet arrested. They say they believe the shooter is an acquaintance of the victim.

Elgin Deputy Police Chief Jeffrey Swoboda said police are still determining what type of gun was used in the shooting and exactly how many times the victim was shot. Although the body was found Sunday morning, police have not determined when the victim was killed.

Police said they expect to have more information available on the homicide today.

"We should have the victim identified ... and hopefully we'll have somebody in custody," Swoboda said.
