New members welcome to S. Elgin Lions meeting
The South Elgin Lions Club will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 4 at the club house, 500 Fulton in South Elgin. The social hour starts at 6 p.m. with a short dinner meeting starting at 7 p.m.
Anyone interested in becoming a member is welcome to attend.
Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with nearly 1.3 million members in approximately 45,000 clubs in 205 countries and geographical area around the world. Since 1917, Lions clubs have aided the blind and visually impaired and made a strong commitment to community service and serving youth throughout the world.
As a part of Lions Clubs International for the past 55 years, the South Elgin Lions Club members have identified needs within the community and worked together to fulfill those needs or provide services to the community. The club promotes diabetes awareness and provides hearing tests and hearing aids to those in financial need. The club keeps very active in the community by participating in various fundraisers throughout the year, the South Elgin River Fest and Candy Day, as well as bingo every Saturday night.
With the money raised, the club has been able to make donations to South Elgin families in need, Operation Jingle Bells, Courier News Shoe Fund, South Elgin Food Pantry, Salvation Army, Little Angels Nursing Home for severely disabled children, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 14 Shop With a Cop, South Elgin youth sports teams, Special Olympics, Leader Dogs for the Blind, the Lions of Illinois Foundation, and many others.
