Gargano, Snyder lead Grayslake Central

Grayslake Central's baseball team had a strong start to its 2009 season Wednesday.

Angelo Gargano belted a 2-run homer, and Southern Illinois recruit Aaron Snyder pitched 4 shutout innings, as the Rams defeated host Antioch 6-1.

Kevin O'Rourke fired 2 scoreless innings for Grayslake Central. Mike Gentile had a double, while Jackson White contributed a pair of singles.

"Nice win against a tough opponent to start the season," Rams coach Troy Whalen said. "Angelo got our offense started and our pitching and defense were solid."

Logan Kent and Andy Danna each had 2 hits for Antioch (1-1).

Mundelein 9, Grayslake North 1: Juston Button and Jay Mueller both hit 2-run home runs for the host Mustangs (2-0).

Button also had a double, while Anthony Cancelli (double, triple) had a pair of extra-base hits as well. Muller went 3-for-4.

Colin Franklin earned the win.
