Gentes: a 'devoted public servant'

When I moved to Round Lake some 13 years ago, I wanted to find ways to serve the community.

One of my opportunities came when Mayor Bill Gentes appointed me a commissioner to the village planning commission. Five years service in that position allowed me to watch, first hand, the work of this devoted public servant.

I have seen him give generously of his time to help Round Lake grow and prosper. The community's infrastructure has been repaired and improved. A new municipal works building has been constructed. He has worked with residents to help create the village's new strategic plan. And, he has overseen significant improvement in the professionalism of the police department.

During his time as mayor, Bill has led the charge on improving transportation across the 26th District as a member of the Lake County Transportation Alliance Board and by chairing the 120 Bypass Coalition. He has also has been working with Round Lake Unit District 116 to get back on solid financial footing. And he has been a tireless advocate for bringing a full-service medical facility to the center of the 26th District.

Now, after years of devoted service to the Greater Round Lake Area, I believe that Mayor Gentes should be given a chance to put his skills to work on a broader scale as state senator for the 26th District. I urge District voters to give him their support on Tuesday.
