ECC waives job fair fee to lure more employers

Elgin Community College will waive the $275 registration fee for employers participating in the college's April 2 job fair. Peggy Gundrum, director ECC's career services department, said eliminating the fee encourages more employer participation at a time when many may be thinking twice about how to spend their money. The job fair is scheduled to take place from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Spartan Events Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

McHenry County hosts pet adoption festival

McHenry County Animal Control and Adoption Center and its animal rescue partners will host the "Pot O' Gold" adoption festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 14 and Sunday, March 15 at the Crystal Court Plaza in Crystal Lake, 5593 Route 14. The event will feature many different breeds of cats and dogs available for adoption as well as information about how the McHenry County Animal Welfare Coalition, a group of 10 local animal welfare groups, is working to help families keep their animals by donating pet food to local pantries. McHenry County Animal Control adoption fees begin at $80 and include all vaccinations, spay/neuter, FELV & FIV testing, microchip, deworming, free 1st Veterinarian visit and discounted grooming. College scholarship from Rep. Mike Tryon

College students living in the 64th legislative district are invited to apply for a General Assembly Scholarship through the office of state Rep. Mike Tryon. The program offers a one-year, tuition-only scholarship to any public university in Illinois. To qualify a student must live in Tryon's district - which includes Algonquin, Huntley, Lake in the Hills and Crystal Lake - show evidence of good grades and leadership potential, and be enrolled in the fall 2009 and spring 2010 semesters. Applications are available at Tryon's office, 1 N. Virginia St., Crystal Lake, or at www.michaeltryon.com. The deadline to submit a scholarship application is March 27.
