Officials lend support to high school sports with clinic
The 12th annual Whistle for a Cause Volleyball Officials Clinic has produced another ace in its support of worthwhile causes.
This year's event will be held Saturday, March 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Vernon Hills High School.
Money collected will be used to purchase better volleyball equipment for six Chicago Public League schools. Previous clinics have raised thousands of dollars to support high school sports-related causes.
Last year's clinic raised $2,750 for three New Orleans high schools still trying to recover from Hurricane Katrina.
The clinic for Level 1 and Level 2 volleyball officials is certified by the IHSA and meets the clinic requirements. Officials must bring a whistle and there is no rules meeting but lunch will be provided.
There will also be floor demonstrations and a scrimmage by the Vernon Hills boys volleball team. All clinicians are members of ZONI (Zebras of Northern Illinois), a Chicago area high school volleyball officials association, and many have worked multiple state finals tournaments.
The clinic costs $20. For information contact ZONI president Tony Skrocki during the day at (847) 535-1015 or by e-mail at Tony.Skrocki@grainger.com.
