Aurora company to pay $700,000 to settle federal harassment lawsuit

An Aurora roofing company accused of allowing racial and sexual harassment will pay $700,000 to settle a federal lawsuit, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission announced.

The lawsuit, filed by the agency, alleged an executive at Anthony Roofing repeatedly called one Black employee racial epithets and made racial remarks about the worker, who eventually quit, according to a news release.

Additionally, other Black workers reported similar harassment from supervisors and co-workers.

Female employees were subjected to offensive comments and questions, too, the news release said.

“The egregious conduct alleged in this case has no place in the American workplace,” EEOC Chair Andrea Lucas said in the release.

The EEOC sued the company in November 2025.

In addition to the financial penalty, the company’s managers and human resources employees must receive training for preventing and correcting harassment, the news release said.
