Katseye postpones sold-out United Center show
You know what’s not “Gnarly”?
Katseye, the hyper-popular singing group —whose first major hit, “Gnarly,” was more or less a litany of the things they really like (Teslas, fried chicken, etc.) — just postponed their hotly awaited sold-out concert at Chicago’s United Center on Thursday night.
A new date is expected soon.
The official reason, according to a United Center statement, is that Katseye member Megan Skiendiel is sick. The message was posted several hours before showtime — which is better than what happened in Detroit on Tuesday, when Katseye postponed a show less than an hour before its scheduled show, according to the Detroit Free Press. The group stated via Instagram: “Unfortunately, Megan is unwell and unable to perform tonight, and we want to make sure she has the time she needs to rest and recover.”
Katseye, which formed in 2023 on the YouTube talent competition show “The Debut: Dream Academy,” launched its first arena tour two weeks ago in Miami, and has sold out most of its dates despite not yet releasing a full-length album, only a series of EPs.
For a relatively new music act, with a rabid fanbase, Katseye has been operating at a deficit for much of the year: Last winter, Manon Bannerman announced she was taking personal time for mental health reasons. Last summer, Sophia Laforteza decided she would also take a break for mental health reasons. Katseye began the year with six members, and started its tour with four. Though they were set to play Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields festival in August, they canceled when Skiendiel sprained an ankle.
The group’s tour is next slated to play Minneapolis on Saturday.
The post by the United Center on social media on Thursday afternoon said, in part: “We’re sorry to share that tonight’s KATSEYE show at the United Center has been postponed due to Megan’s illness. Please do not travel to the venue, as doors will not open for tonight’s show. … Please hold on to your tickets. They’ll be valid for the new date, which we’ll announce soon. VIP packages, including soundcheck upgrades, will carry over too. If you can’t make the new date, refunds will be available to your original payment method.”
