DuPage County chair: Deborah Conroy headed towards victory

DuPage County Board Chair Deborah Conroy has pulled ahead of challenger Gary Grasso and looks likely to win her reelection bid for a second four-year term.

The official vote count won’t be certified until later this month.

With early voting, mail-in and about 99% of election day ballots now counted, Conroy had 205,122 votes and Grasso had 121,852 votes.

When Conroy was elected as board chair in 2022, she was the first woman to hold the position in the county’s history and the first Democrat in decades. Conroy currently resides in Lombard.

Prior to her chairmanship, Conroy was a longtime Illinois state representative for the 46th District. She also previously served as a board member for Community Unit School District 205.

Her challenger, Gary Grasso, is a Republican and serves as mayor of Burr Ridge. He previously served as a member of the DuPage County Board, a position he held for six years.
