Challenger Brenda Rodgers in front in Kane County clerk’s race

After more than two decades, it looks like Kane County may soon have a new clerk, with challenger Brenda Rodgers in the lead for the seat over longtime incumbent John “Jack” Cunningham.

Unofficial election results from the Kane County Clerk’s Office as of around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday show Rodgers, a Democrat, receiving almost 59% of the votes and Cunningham getting a little over 41%.

As of Tuesday night, almost 166,000 ballots had been cast — a little under 57% of the county’s roughly 292,000 registered voters, according to numbers from the clerk’s office.

Cunningham, a Republican, has served as the county’s clerk for more than two decades. If reelected, the coming term would have been his seventh in the role.

Rodgers, meanwhile, secured the Democratic nomination in the March primary, defeating opponent Brian Pollock.

A longtime Realtor, Rodgers previously served as a member of Elgin’s City Council from 2003 to 2007. She hasn’t served in an elected role since then, running unsuccessfully in 2024 for Kane County recorder as a Democrat.
