Man convicted of possessing $200K of cocaine in Kane County
A man has been found guilty of possessing about $200,000 worth of cocaine in Kane County.
Juan C. Cruz-Aceves, 32, of the 18000 block of West Union Road in Union, was convicted Oct. 23 by Kane County Judge D.J. Tegeler. Cruz-Aceves chose to have his case heard by a judge rather than a jury.
He was convicted of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
He did not appear for any of the three days of his trial, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
According to authorities, an Illinois State Police trooper stopped Cruz-Aceves on I-90 near Huntley on suspicion of speeding.
Cruz-Aceves didn’t have a valid license or insurance coverage on the vehicle, so it was towed.
During a tow inventory, police said they found a backpack containing about 2.4 kilograms of cocaine, wrapped in two brick-style bundles.
Sentencing is set for Dec. 18. Cruz-Aceves faces 15 to 60 years in prison.
