Wolves lose to Milwaukee in shootout, but extend points streak
The Chicago Wolves extended their points streak to four games after they fell to the Milwaukee Admirals 2-1 in a shootout Sunday afternoon at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.
Viktor Neuchev scored for the Wolves but Chicago came up short and had its three-game winning streak snapped to settle for a split of the weekend series between the Central Division rivals. Cole O’Hara notched the winner in the shootout and also scored in regulation for the Admirals.
The Admirals struck first when O’Hara found the back of the net midway through the opening period.
Early in the second, Neuchev knotted things at 1-1 with his second goal of the season. The forward, playing on his 23rd birthday, took a feed from Stiven Sardarian in the slot, spun and fired a shot that solved Milwaukee netminder Matt Murray. Sardarian and Ivan Ryabkin earned assists on Neuchev’s score to extend their individual points streaks to three games.
After a scoreless third and overtime, O’Hara ended it in the shootout.
Zach Sawchenko (38 saves) was sensational but took the loss in goal for the Wolves while Murray (19 saves) got the win for the Admirals.
Chicago fell to 3-4-0-1 on the season while Milwaukee now stands at 5-2-0-0.
