Q&A

Why are you running for this office? Is there a particular issue that motivates you?

I’m running for the DuPage County Board because I believe local government is where public service can, and does make the most direct and meaningful impact in people's lives. My experience as an Elmhurst Alderman taught me that the best results come from listening to the constituents and knowing their needs, incorporating their perspectives into decisions, and working collaboratively with fellow elected officials and staff. What motivates me is the need for experienced, practical leadership focused on the County Board’s core responsibilities. My priority is delivering high quality services while using taxpayer dollars responsibly. I want to bring my knowledge and experience to the board to help ensure county government is responsive, effective, and accountable to the people it serves.

If you are an incumbent, describe your main contributions. Tell us of any important initiatives you’ve led. If you are a challenger, what would you bring to the board and what would your priority be?

I am running for an open seat and would bring a combination of local government experience, years of professional expertise, and community service to the County Board. As an Elmhurst Alderman, I worked collaboratively to address residents concerns and deliver effective government. My years as a seasoned Realtor and Managing Broker, along with my service as a Realtor Government Affairs Committee member, have strengthened my negotiating skills, and understanding of real estate, planning, and public policy. My volunteer service on non-profit boards has also given me firsthand insight into the real-life challenges people face. My priority would be to provide high level services using taxpayer dollars, prudently. I would also draw on my professional real estate knowledge to help shape planning and economic development policies that attract investment, support existing local businesses, and create opportunities for DuPage. Sustainable economic growth strengthens our tax base and supports the services our residents depend on.

What initiatives would you support to increase revenue and/or save money?

The goal with these initiatives is to create long-term fiscal stability. To save money, I would support the same tools I did as an Alderman, such as; intergovernmental agreements, public-private partnerships, seeking competitive bids, exploring areas of consolidation, collaborating with non-profits, engaging state and federal legislators, and diligently monitoring spending practices.

To increase revenue, I will support programs and policies that promote sustainable economic development, support our businesses through transportation and infrastructure improvements, housing growth and accessibility, and provide high level public safety.

Is there a specific service or amenity that is lacking in the county? If so, how do you propose to provide and fund it?

Housing is a primary issue. As a Realtor, I would bring my knowledge and experience to the discussions around expanding housing options. The bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act and Illinois Public Act 104-0554 bills provide a foundation for county planning and action. As your County Board member, I will work with housing partners to apply these tools, and ensure all project spending is strictly accountable and transparent.

Also, through my door-knocking, I have met seniors struggling with property taxes, utilities, and other expenses, who do not know where to find help. I assisted these residents by providing information about senior tax exemptions, the Senior Freeze, and how to find support for an aging spouse.

As a Seniors Real Estate Specialist, I would seek to serve on the Human Services Committee and improve outreach through libraries, senior centers, and township partners, with telephone and in-person assistance. I would prioritize existing outreach funds and community partnerships, seeking grants for additional needs so more seniors can access available support.

Does there need to be more bipartisanship and cooperation on the county board? If yes, what would you do to help make that happen?

The DuPage County Board is currently composed of 12 Democrat and 6 Republican members. The Board has demonstrated bipartisan agreement on major budgetary, administrative, and oversight actions. I believe civil discussion and respectful debate lead to better government decisions. As an Elmhurst Alderman, I learned the importance of listening to residents and working together with fellow elected officials and staff. I would bring that approach to the County Board by listening to input from fellow board members and staff, performing thorough review of proposals, and evaluating each issue on its merits. As stewards of taxpayer dollars, board members share a responsibility to represent their districts and deliver fair, efficient services. I would focus on that shared responsibility and work with colleagues to find practical solutions that best benefit all of the people of DuPage County. Local government is where the people’s voices can and should be heard and where we can truly make a difference.

What is your stance on county board members' pay? Is it too high, too low, or just right? Would you propose any changes?

I am not a County Board member, therefore I did not have a vote on the recent pay increase. I feel that the pay level that existed prior to the increase was fair. If I am elected and the matter should be brought back for discussion, I will be of the same opinion.

What is the most important issue facing the county in your district and how should it be addressed?

My priorities for District 1 and the county include; advancing stormwater and flood mitigation projects and quarry upgrades; keeping Western Access moving forward to support economic growth and job creation; and working with the O’Hare Noise Compatibility Commission to address aircraft noise.

Housing affordability and availability is one of the pressing issues facing the county and District 1. We need more options for first-time buyers, moderate-income households and seniors looking to downsize. County and state lawmakers must work with local leaders to turn housing initiatives into results while addressing each community’s specific needs.

Knocking on thousands of doors over the past year and speaking with local mayors has reinforced the fact that housing must be supported by reliable infrastructure, essential services, and safe neighborhoods. Providing services addressing food insecurity and mental health are important, while working closely with our State’s Attorney and Sheriff to keep public safety a priority. Meeting these needs together will help residents build their futures here and remain in their communities as their needs change.
