Palatine moving ahead on next year’s streetscape improvements

Now that Palatine has completed the first phase of its downtown streetscape improvements, village officials are paving the way for the second.

The village council authorized paying Itasca-based civil engineering consulting firm BLA Inc. up to $141,765 for design engineering services for the 2027 improvements. The village will use tax increment financing funds for the work.

The firm will design upgrades to the northwest corner of Palatine and Plum Grove roads, as well as streetscape improvements to Bothwell, Brockway, and Greeley streets between Palatine Road and Slade Street, and Wood Street west of Smith Street.

Work will include developing alternative layouts for the streetscape design and a topographic survey.

The project will retain the same design team used to develop the first phase of along Slade Street, village staff said.

The village celebrated the completion of the first phase of the downtown improvements along Slade on Oct. 10.

The second and third phases will take place over the next two years, village officials said.
