Carpentersville man facing felony after dumping gas into storm sewer in West Dundee
A 34-year-old Carpentersville man is facing a felony charge after draining gas from a vehicle into a storm sewer in West Dundee on Wednesday.
The West Dundee Police Department said in a news release that officers responded to a report of suspicious activity near the intersection of Washington Street and North 7th Street on Oct. 14 and found two people draining fuel from a vehicle.
Authorities say the man inadvertently added regular gasoline to his diesel fuel vehicle at a nearby gas station and was attempting to empty the vehicle’s fuel tank.
The West Dundee Fire Department responded to the scene and, in cooperation with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, implemented containment and mitigation measures.
Officials said there is no identified concern regarding public health, wildlife, or long-term environmental hazards associated with the dumping.
The man was charged with unlawful disposal of hazardous waste, a Class 3 felony.
