Endorsement: Casten for Congress from Illinois District 6

The race to represent Illinois’ 6th District in Congress features another rematch. Downers Grove Democrat Sean Casten successfully fended off a 2024 challenge from Glen Ellyn Republican Niki Conforti.

Two years later, the race is again a campaign between two diametrically different political approaches.

Casten continues to espouse thoughtful, often innovative ideas on issues like foreign policy, economic policy, tariffs, congressional duties, presidential authority, health care and protecting Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. Conforti leans toward conservative talking points on most topics and seems comfortable to remain in virtual lockstep with President Donald Trump, whatever the issue.

Their positions on Trump’s tariffs provides a stark example of their differences. Whereas Casten has problems with both the scope of Trump’s tariff policy and Congress’ apparent abdication of its role in governing taxes and duties, Conforti fully supports the president’s actions to impose tariffs broadly at his own discretion.

We have consistently been impressed with the calm, resolute approach Casten, a former energy company executive, takes toward the issues facing government. In addition, he remains an active presence in the district as well as an innovative thinker regarding the role of Congress in Washington.

District 6 takes in parts of Elmhurst and Downers Grove in the north and runs southeast to Tinley Park. Casten has been our choice for the district in the past. We strongly recommend him for a fifth term.
