Fermi Community Orchestra presents ‘Haunted Romantics’ concert Nov. 8 in Aurora
On Sunday, Nov. 8, the Fermi Community Orchestra with the Fermi Community Strings will present “Haunted Romantics: Shadows of Fate” at 7 p.m. in Aurora University’s Crimi Auditorium, 1347 Prairie St. in Aurora. Admission is free.
The orchestra program will feature Prokofiev’s “Montagues and Capulets” from “Romeo and Juliet,” Bruch’s “Kol Nidrei” featuring cellist Santiago Uribe Cardona, Mussorgsky’s “Night on Bald Mountain,” Berlioz’s “March to the Scaffold” from “Symphonie Fantastique.”
The Fermi Community Strings will perform Alan Lee Silva’s “The Evil Eye and the Hideous Heart,” Beethoven’s Allegretto from Symphony No. 7, arranged by Todd Parrish, and Tchaikovsky’s Waltz from “The Sleeping Beauty,” arranged by Leland Forsblad.
Founded in 2018, the Batavia-based orchestra has expanded to include the full symphonic orchestra, the Fermi Community Strings, the bluegrass-style Fermi Fiddlers, and other chamber ensembles.
As a nonprofit organization, the Fermi Community Orchestra is dedicated to making live orchestral music accessible to everyone, from performing musicians to seasoned enthusiasts and those simply discovering the joy of music. The volunteer musicians, amateur and professional, perform great works of music in free concerts for the public, including classical and pops repertoire, as well as music from musicals and movies.
The season will continue with “Animato,” a children’s concert, at 3 p.m. Feb. 28 and an evening concert at 7 p.m. March 7 at Batavia United Methodist Church, 8 N. Batavia Ave. On June 13, the “Back to the ’80s” concert will be at 7 p.m. at the Batavia church.
