DeKalb man charged with attempted murder in Arlington Heights stabbing
A DeKalb man faces attempted murder and aggravated battery charges after police say he stabbed and tried to run over an acquaintance Saturday in Arlington Heights.
Kendall Chesley, 25, was arrested on the charges after an extensive search involving multiple law enforcement agencies, the Arlington Heights Police Department’s drone unit and Buffalo Grove police’s K-9 unit, police said Sunday.
Chesley was in custody Sunday awaiting a court hearing, according to police.
His arrest came after Chesley called 911 at about 1:50 p.m. Saturday and claimed to have stabbed someone in the 300 block of North Salem Avenue, police said. Officers arrived to find a man suffering multiple stab wounds to the chest and hand.
The stabbing victim, a 30-year-old Arlington Heights man, was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with injuries police said were not life-threatening.
A subsequent investigation revealed Chesley also tried to strike the acquaintance with a Honda Civic during an altercation, police alleged. After the Honda collided with a nearby building instead, Chesley abandoned it and fled on foot, authorities said.
Palatine police officers arrested Chesley at about 2:51 p.m. in the area of Rand and Hintz roads, officials said.
