Football roundup: St. Francis, St. Charles North, WW South, Naperville Central post wins

Alex Taylor returned the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown and later caught a third-quarter touchdown pass from quarterback Jadon Wilson during St. Francis’ 52-24 Senior Night victory Friday against Notre Dame in Wheaton.

With their third consecutive win, the Spartans improved to 4-4 heading into next weekend’s clash with two-time defending state champion Montini (6-2). Wilson threw three touchdown passes, including a seven-yarder to Noah Turner, and a 12-yard strike to Greg Bess-Henning.

Senior tailback Tivias Caldwell scored a pair of rushing touchdowns, while Ty’Ree Dickson added an 18-yard touchdown. Evan Kolinski booted a 43-yard field goal in the second quarter before the Spartans tallied 21 third-quarter points to extend their lead. Donovan Humphrey picked off a pair of passes, and Javonte Williams added an interception.

St. Charles North 33, Glenbard North 32: Trailing 32-26 following quarterback Logan Kramer’s 43-yard touchdown pass to Cory Truty with 1:36 remaining, the North Stars (4-4, 2-4) overcame a pair of penalties and marched 80 yards, capped by sophomore Kiren Walker’s acrobatic 56-yard touchdown catch off a deflection with 30 seconds left. Alejo Espinoza added the extra-point kick in Carol Stream. Senior tailback Angelo Vitale (31 carries, 170 yards) scored three touchdowns for the Panthers (3-5, 1-5) on runs covering two, three and 29 yards, respectively. Kramer added a 42-yard touchdown run.

Wheaton Warrenville South 31, Lake Park 19: Junior quarterback AJ Rogers tossed a pair of touchdown passes to Blake Ittersagen to lift the Tigers (6-2, 5-1) past Lake Park (2-6, 1-5) in DuKane Conference action in Wheaton. Trent Simpson and Clark Jensen added touchdown runs of 23 and three yards, respectively. Drew Maletich booted a 26-yard field goal for the Tigers. Senior quarterback Tay Smith flipped a 40-yard touchdown pass to TJ Ogunribido for the Lancers.

Naperville Central 17, Waubonsie Valley 7: Ryan Jacobson ran for a pair of touchdowns during the Redhawks’ DuPage Valley Conference victory in Naperville. Naperville Central is 4-4, 3-1. Nolan Alberson’s touchdown pass to Aaron Williams accounted for the Warriors’ (3-5, 2-3) lone score.

Metea Valley 28, DeKalb 17: Junior quarterback Iggy Amorrortu ran for a pair of touchdowns for Metea Valley (3-5, 2-3), which became playoff eligible for the first time since 2014 with the DuPage Valley Conference victory in DeKalb. Amorrortu tossed a touchdown pass to James Harris for the game’s first score, then ran for the go-ahead score with 10 minutes remaining for the Mustangs.

Kaneland 59, Ottawa 14: Tailback Colton Ludwig carried the ball 17 times for 211 yards and three touchdowns, while teammate Cooper Stombres caught four passes for 107 yards and three touchdowns during the Knights’ Interstate Eight victory in Ottawa. Quarterback Brody Guthrie completed 9 of 12 passes for 182 yards and four touchdowns for Kaneland (7-1, 4-1), which scored on its first eight possessions.

Cary-Grove 61, Crystal Lake South 19: Shamrion Prude rushed for 168 yards on seven carries with touchdown runs covering 58 and 63 yards during the Trojans’ Fox Valley Conference road win over Crystal Lake South (2-6, 2-6). Tailback Ty Tenopir carried the ball 12 times for 124 yards and a touchdown, while quarterback Jackson Berndt ran for 75 yards and a pair of scores, as Cary-Grove (6-2, 6-2) won its third straight. Leo Zavala, Travis Evelo and Jack Dunkin each added touchdown runs for the Trojans, who scored 34 unanswered second-half points.

Hampshire 39, McHenry 6: Quarterback Griffin Chamberlain completed 14 of 18 passes for 211 yards and four touchdowns as Hampshire (5-3, 5-3) earned its fifth win in six games in McHenry. Jameson Karwacki (four catches, 85 yards), Tymere Marshall, Landon Hall and Reed Guess all caught touchdown passes for the Whip-Purs.

Jacobs 27, Dundee-Crown 13: Junior quarterback Austin Stennett passed for two touchdowns and rushed for a pair of scores to lift Jacobs (7-1, 7-1) past Dundee-Crown (3-5, 3-5) in Carpentersville. Stennett, who raced 65 yards for a score on the first play from scrimmage, connected with junior receiver Owen Crouch on touchdown passes of 24 and 11 yards, respectively. Senior quarterback Isaac Grzynkowicz accounted for 250 all-purpose yards with a touchdown run for the Chargers.

Bartlett 56, Larkin 18: Sophomore Brayden Magsombol ran for three first-half touchdowns to lift the Hawks (1-7, 1-4) to their first win of the season against Larkin (0-8, 0-5). Quarterback Parker Mulhall scored on a 38-yard keeper and Jake Marchese added a one-yard touchdown run for Bartlett. Quarterback Brian Watson tossed a four-yard touchdown pass to Izel Barraza for the Royals.

Fenton 27, Elmwood Park 18: Jordan Medrano scored on a 17-yard reverse run and quarterback Luke Loncar threw a touchdown pass during Fenton’s Upstate Eight East victory in Bensenville. With their second straight win, the Bison improved to 4-4, 2-3.

West Chicago 57, Ridgewood 34: Senior tailback Iann Lemus carried the ball 29 times for 276 yards and a career-best five touchdowns during the Wildcats’ Upstate Eight East victory in Norridge. Lemus received support from Liam Zbierski (11 carries, 196 yards) and Bobby Elizondo (five carries, 113 yards, two touchdowns) as the Wildcats (3-5, 1-3) finished with 593 rushing yards while becoming playoff eligible for a school-record fourth consecutive season.

Downers Grove South 17, Leyden 6: The Mustangs (6-2, 5-0) clinched a share of the West Suburban Gold by holding off Leyden in Franklin Park. Senior tailbacks Danny Klaeren (63 yards) and Forest Bates contributed touchdown runs as Downers Grove South pocketed its third straight win.

Willowbrook 35, Proviso East 0: The Warriors improved to 5-3 overall, 3-2 in West Suburban Gold play, with the home-field victory. Jax Chavez scored on a three-yard touchdown run to open the scoring for Willowbrook, which earned its third straight win. Sophomore Lucas Stringini added an interception for the Warriors, who host district rival Addison Trail (5-3, 3-2).

Lisle 18, Streator 15: The playoff-bound Lions (4-4, 2-4) climbed back to .500 for the season with their second Interstate Eight Conference victory of the season in Lisle.

Hinsdale South 47, Morton 14: Quarterback Benjamin Miller ran for a touchdown and tossed an 18-yard touchdown pass to Koby Armstrong during the Hornets’ West Suburban Gold victory in Cicero. Marko Wallace’s 11-yard touchdown run snapped a 7-7 deadlock and put the Hornets (4-4, 4-1) on top to stay.

Hinsdale Central 49, Proviso West 6: Matthew Lynch returned a muffed punt four yards for the game’s first touchdown during the Red Devils’ West Suburban Silver victory in Hinsdale. Beau Knapp scored from two yards out and quarterback Beau Gatewood connected with junior tight end Brady Hannigan on a 23-yard touchdown pass, as the Red Devils (5-3, 2-3) built a 42-0 halftime advantage.

Aurora Central Catholic 42, Burlington Catholic Central (Wis.) 12: The Chargers earned their all-important third victory of the season, jumping out to a 28-0 lead on the way to their 30-point triumph in Wisconsin. ACC (3-5) finishes its regular season at Momence next Friday.
