‘Three’s Company’-themed bar crawl to benefit Palatine charity on Oct. 17
People Helping People — Palatine, a nonprofit organization that supports those in need in the Palatine community, invites everyone to its inaugural Helen Roper-themed bar crawl fundraiser from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, in downtown Palatine.
Known colloquially as a Roper Romp, the event encourages participants to dress as the curly-topped, caftan-wearing landlord from the popular 1970s-80s sitcom “Three’s Company,” while enjoying special offers at a variety of bars and shops. Not into loud earrings and pink nail polish? Come as Jack, Chrissy, Janet, Stanley or any of the show’s beloved characters or just come to enjoy a community event in the heart of downtown with a group of friends.
Tickets are $20 in advance through Thursday, Oct. 15, at php-palatine.com, or $25 the day of the event. Admission includes a Roper Romp wristband with access to participating locations and their special offers, Roper bling, and entry into the optional costume contest. The first 75 ticket purchasers will also receive a Roper Romp swag bag.
Participants can visit participating bars, restaurants and retailers throughout the afternoon. Both check in and final prize drawings will be held at Madcats, 117 W. Slade St. in Palatine, the venue serving as the event’s Regal Beagle Headquarters. The costume contest will be held at Tap House Grill, with prizes for Best Helen, Best Stanley and Best Group.
Bars lined up to participate include American Legion Post 690, Big Grove Brewery at Durty Nellie’s, Emmett’s Brewing Company, Garfield’s Beverage Warehouse, JL’s Pizza and Sports Bar, Lamplighter Inn Tavern & Grill, Madcats, Tap House Grill, TJ O’Brien’s Bar & Grill, and The Cork @ CCF. Featured specials available for purchase include themed beverages such as the Chrissy Collins, Regal Beagle Cocktail, Come and Knock on My Pour, and The Caftan.
Several downtown shops will also offer exclusive Roper Romp specials and promotions, including Anne’s Unique Boutique, Craft Collective, Little Broken Things, My Flavor It Place, and Style on Site.
In addition to the afternoon’s specials and activities, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a prize basket raffle and 50/50 raffle, with proceeds benefiting People Helping People — Palatine.
This inaugural event is also supported by several generous sponsors including Breezy Home Plumbing, Deb Gabriel — Edward Jones, JP Wood Martial Arts, Palatine Bank & Trust, Palatine Vision Center, and Pam Gauper Real Estate.
Tickets for admission, the basket raffle and the 50/50 raffle are available via php-palatine.com. For information, contact phppalatine@gmail.com.
All funds raised at the event support the efforts of People Helping People — Palatine, a local 501(c)3 organization established in 2020.
