Vehicle drives into Naperville townhouse building, causing fire and $500K in damage
A passenger vehicle plowed into a Naperville townhouse building Tuesday afternoon, sparking a fire that caused an estimated $500,000 in damage and left multiple units uninhabitable, authorities said.
No injuries were reported as a result of the crash and fire, which occurred about 12:43 p.m. in the 3000 block of Crystal Rock Road, according to the Naperville Fire Department.
Firefighters found smoke and fire in the rear of the structure. All occupants were out of the building and the vehicle when firefighters arrived.
The blaze was extinguished by 1:12 p.m., but firefighters remained on the scene to overhaul the fire area and extinguish smoldering embers to ensure the hazard was contained, officials said.
Naperville police Cmdr. Ricky Krakow said it appears the vehicle came from the parking lot of a restaurant, and that the driver had a “medical incident” that caused them to lose control. No citations were issued, Krakow said.
Naperville firefighters were assisted by the Warrenville Fire Protection District, and the West Chicago and Aurora fire departments.
The incident remains under investigation, officials said.
