Palatine hosting event to celebrate completion of downtown construction

Palatine will host a downtown “Grand Re‑Opening” event from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, to celebrate the completion of street and infrastructure improvements made over the summer.

The event will be centered around the Firefighters Memorial parking lot at Slade and Brockway streets. There will be musical performances throughout the event, and visitors will be allowed to take food and drinks out of downtown restaurants into the designated event space.

No coolers or outside alcohol allowed.

The work along Slade Street included reconfigured parking, space for outdoor cafe dining, more landscaping and a more pedestrian-friendly feel between Bothwell and Brockway streets. Other improvements included fiber optic installation, water main replacement east of Brockway, sidewalk brick reconstruction and storm sewer enhancements.
