Five Week 7 high school football games to watch

West Aurora (4-2) at South Elgin (5-1)

This matchup has decided the Upstate Eight Conference West race the past two seasons. With both teams sitting at 4-0 in conference, this year looks no different. West Aurora took the title in 2024, the Storm last year. Bryce Riley is putting up huge numbers for West Aurora, already with 821 rushing yards, 14 touchdowns and 1,071 all-purpose yards. South Elgin will try to slow him down having allowed just 13 points in the last four games.

Hinsdale South (3-3) at Downers Grove South (4-2)

Like the UEC West, here's another conference race that likely will be determined with this outcome. Both teams are 3-0 in the West Suburban Gold. The Mustangs, 30-27 winners over the Hornets last year, are led by junior quarterback James Sobkowiak who threw five touchdown passes last week. Hinsdale South counters with quarterback Benjamin Miller who tossed a pair of TDs in a loss to Glenbard West last week.

Bishop McNamara (5-1) at Wheaton Academy (6-0)

One more matchup between conference unbeatens, this one a pair of 4-0 teams in the Chicagoland Christian. Quarterback Colton Miller and running back Ethan Brooks both ran for two touchdowns last week for Wheaton Academy, 6-0 for the first time since 1957. The Warriors have another key matchup next week against Aurora Christian, whose only loss is to Bishop McNamara.

Libertyville (4-2) at Mundelein (3-3)

After opening the season with losses to Geneva and Naperville North, the Wildcats have won four straight games in the North Suburban Conference to share the lead with Lake Zurich. Texas commit Brock Williams is always a player to watch; the tight end has 621 all-purpose yards. Libertyville’s defense is playing well, coming off a shutout against Stevenson. Mundelein has lost three in a row but played Lake Zurich to a 15-9 game last week.

Conant (5-1) at Barrington (2-4)

It’s Barrington’s annual Saturday afternoon homecoming game. After the Broncos’ first 0-4 start since 1947, they look to be rounding into form just in time. Talented junior RB Lamar Osterhues is healthy again, running for 193 yards in a shutout win over Palatine last week. The Cougars saw their 5-0 streak snapped in a loss to Fremd. They will try to get their ground game back on track after rushing for just 34 yards last week.
