Lutheran Home to host walk benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association

Family-friendly Oct. 17 event in Arlington Heights will feature two walking routes, Alzheimer’s education, wellness experiences, community resources, food and entertainment.

Lutheran Home will bring residents, families and members of the greater Arlington Heights community together for its Mini Alzheimer’s Walk on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association while raising awareness and providing education and resources for individuals and families impacted by Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

The walk will begin promptly at 9 a.m. at Lutheran Home, 800 W. Oakton St. in Arlington Heights. Participants can choose between two routes: a shorter loop around the Lutheran Home campus or an approximately one-mile neighborhood walk around Lutheran Home and Luther Village.

“Every step makes a difference” will serve as the message behind a day designed to offer the community more than a traditional fundraising walk. Following the walk, attendees are invited to stay for educational opportunities, wellness experiences, entertainment, food and community resources.

Representatives from the Alzheimer’s Association will be on-site and will present three mini educational sessions throughout the event. Attendees can also visit a Wellness Corner featuring a sound bath, journaling and mindfulness experiences.

Local community organizations and professionals, including home health, hospice and real estate resources, will be available to provide information and connect with attendees.

The family-friendly event will also include music from a DJ, children’s programming, food trucks, raffles and prizes.

Alzheimer’s disease and dementia affect individuals, families and communities in many different ways. Through the Mini Alzheimer’s Walk, Lutheran Home hopes to create an opportunity for neighbors to come together, learn about available resources and support the work of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Community members can participate by walking, attending the event or donating in support of the Alzheimer’s Association.
