Lisle Township Mental Health Board seeks new members
Lisle Township is investing in stronger mental health and disability services for its residents — and the community members helping decide how those resources are used are looking for others to join them.
The Lisle Township Community Mental Health Board provides funding for services addressing mental health, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders. It was formed in 2023 to help build and support a network of services for Lisle Township residents.
In just a few years, the board has developed an annual grant program and funded community organizations providing a variety of services to township residents. Funded organizations include agencies working with children and families, people with developmental disabilities, and residents who need mental health support. The board is now in its third consecutive year of funding community programs.
Beyond awarding grants, the board works to identify gaps in local services and encourage organizations to develop programs that respond to the needs of Lisle Township residents. The board particularly welcomes opportunities to expand services in areas where residents may currently have limited options.
“Serving on the township mental health board is especially rewarding because we have the opportunity to bring organizations and resources together to strengthen services for our community,” said board chair Stephen Davis. “We can identify needs and see the direct impact that this work can have on people in Lisle Township.”
The board is currently recruiting new members. Lisle Township residents from a variety of professional and community backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Mental health expertise is welcome but is not required; the board benefits from members who bring different experiences and perspectives to decisions about community needs and public funding. The board also wants to hear from organizations interested in providing services to Lisle Township residents. Nonprofit and community organizations working in mental health, intellectual and developmental disabilities, or substance use disorders are encouraged to learn about future grant opportunities and introduce themselves to the board.
