Authorities: Man attacked person sitting in vehicle

An 18-year-old man was arrested Saturday morning after an apparent unprovoked attack on a man who was sitting in his vehicle in Aurora.

Josiah Evans of Oswego is facing felony charges of aggravated battery to a peace officer and aggravated battery in a public way, according to a news release from the Aurora Police Department.

Authorities said that Aurora police officers responded at about 5:30 a.m. on Sept. 26 to the 700 block of South River Street.

When the officers arrived, a victim reported that he was sitting in his vehicle when a man approached him. The victim told police that the man threatened to shoot him, punched him in the face, and later threatened to stab him, authorities said.

The victim said he did not know the suspect and declined medical attention, according to the news release.

Authorities said officers located a man matching the suspect’s description nearby. Officers detained the suspect, identified as Evans.

According to the news release, Evans became physically confrontational with an officer. He was subsequently taken into custody.

Authorities say Evans faced criminal charges in another case three days earlier. He was charged with felony burglary to a motor vehicle after an Aurora police investigation into a series of vehicle burglaries, according to the news release.

Evans remains in custody at the Kane County Adult Justice Center and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 14.
