‘Frida Kahlo — A Woman Who Dared’ concert blends music and visual art in Wilmette

Chicago singer songwriter Linda Marie Smith brings “Frida Kahlo — A Woman Who Dared” to First Congregational Church of Wilmette on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 4 p.m.

This immersive live concert weaves original songs, ensemble performance, storytelling and cinematic projected imagery into a portrait of the artist’s life.

Smith performs with Neal Alger on guitar and vocals, Katherine Hughes on violin and vocals, and Robert Arendt on bass and vocals. As the musicians perform, imagery created by Evelyn Spear brings Frida’s world to the screen. The concert explores Kahlo’s creative passion, complicated relationships, physical struggles and the courage she brought to her art.

“Frida Kahlo — A Woman Who Dared” premiered to a sold out audience at Chicago’s Epiphany Center for the Arts earlier this year. The performance runs approximately 80 minutes.
