Kane County clerk says duplicate ballots were sent by mistake

The Kane County clerk’s office mistakenly sent about 2,000 duplicate ballots to some voters, it announced Tuesday.

The clerk’s ballot-printing machine had processing issues and couldn’t determine whether a ballot was actually printed. It printed another ballot to ensure voters received theirs on time.

Clerk John Cunningham said the clerk’s tabulation system has safeguards to allow only one ballot per person to be counted.

He said voters who received a duplicate should disregard it.

As of Tuesday morning, the clerk’s office had sent vote-by-mail ballots to 44,119 people. None have been returned yet.
