Girls golf roundup: Hinsdale Central, York, Libertyville, Lake Park claim regional crowns
Hinsdale Central, Benet and Metea Valley took the top three spots Tuesday at the Class 2A Hinsdale South regional to advance to next week’s Sandburg sectional.
The Red Devils shot a 294 at Carriage Greens Country Club to finish 12 shots ahead of Benet.
The Redwings did have the individual champion thanks to sophomore Lauren Gauss firing a 4-under 66. She was the only golfer in the field to break par, recording seven birdies in her round.
Hinsdale Central’s Amelia Gambla and Benet’s Madelyn Maldonado tied for second place with 71s. The Red Devils’ Naya Shirsat and Sara Han both finished at 72 to give Hinsdale Central three of the top five.
Class 2A Lake Park regional: The host Lancers pulled away from the field at Bloomingdale Golf Club to win their own regional and advance to next week’s Class 2A Prospect sectional.
Senior Samantha Rottinger led Lake Park with an even-par 71 to take medalist honors, matching three birdies with three bogies. Teammate Amaani Patel was the only other golfer to break 80 with a 75, Jenna Danicek had an 83, and Ella Ratini and Mia Colella both carded 84s as Lake Park finished with a 313 team total.
Prospect (351) and Hersey (352) also advanced to the sectional. Peyton Camardella paced Prospect with an 84 and Serena Joseph shot 82 for Hersey.
Class 2A Glenbard West regional: York (331), Wheaton North (348) and Wheaton Warrenville South (358) took the top three spots at Glendale Lakes and will join the field next Monday at the Prospect sectional.
York freshman Madison Cotey shot an even-par 70 to take first place, two shots ahead of Wheaton North’s Ariana Savenok. Wheaton Warrenville South sophomore Brooklyn Calabrese finished third with a 76.
Glenbard North senior Amanda Nguyen advanced as an individual and took fourth place by shooting 77.
Class 2A Libertyville regional: Kenzie Christie fired a regional-best 74 at Countryside Golf Club and teammate Abby Feltz had a 79 to tie for second and lead Libertyville to the team championship with a 330 total.
Carmel (350) and Warren (374) also advanced to next week’s Jacobs sectional at Randall Oaks. Senior Gabriella Stephens paced Carmel with a 79 while Annika Tendick’s 84 topped Warren’s lineup.
Class 2A Crystal Lake Central regional: Hampshire’s 377 total edged Huntley’s 378 to give the Whip-Purs third place and the final spot at next week’s Jacobs sectional.
Both teams weren’t that far behind Rockford Guilford (371) and Rockton Hononegah (372) at Crystal Woods.
Kinsey Hayes led Huntley with an 85, good for fifth place, while Estancia Arenas shot an 87 for Hampshire.
Class 1A Johnsburg regional: St. Viator found Boone Creek to its liking, finishing with a 379 total to finish second and advance to a sectional the Lions are hosting next week at Old Orchard.
St. Viator sophomore Giavanna Mucerino shot an 81 to tie for second.
